OUR MISSION: We exist to provide our community with an exceptional coffee experience.

WHO

First and foremost, we are fans of coffee. We are a collective of coffee professionals, from different companies and parts of the supply chain. We have seen the work the farmers and families put into producing delicious and award-winning coffees and understand what they are going through. We have joined forces to serve a greater purpose in the coffee industry by providing a second opportunity for coffee producers to have a sustainable harvest season. This collaboration has allowed us to become a natural bridge from the farm to the consumer.

WHAT

What we are doing is purchasing coffee that is typically undervalued due to its grade at a sustainable price, well above the cost of production for coffee producers. As an importer and roaster, we are streamlining the supply chain by putting the consumer one step closer to the farm itself. We will be available to conscious consumers in supermarkets throughout Canada.

WHY

While working in the coffee industry, we found a flaw in the supply chain and saw an opportunity to create a healthy and sustainable producer-to-customer chain. Coffee creates a tremendous amount of wealth, but it’s poorly distributed along the supply chain and the producers who are the most overworked, are the most undervalued. The lack of infrastructure traps them in a continuous cycle of producing more and more “seconds'' quality coffee than exportable grade coffee. This results in the producers often selling their coffee at a loss, below their costs of production. This cycle creates an unsustainable business model. As the coffee is still of great quality and mostly consumed within the country, we saw an opportunity to buy the coffee at 3x its “local” value at a sustainable price for producers and a competitive price for us to place it on the shelf at the supermarket in Canada.

WHERE

Our beans have been sourced from Las Manos, Nueva Segovia in Nicaragua. We chose this region as we have spent quite a bit of time working alongside and building relationships with the farms and the families that are running them. We will be serving Second Chance Coffee exclusively to retail stores and supermarkets across Canada.

We hope that Second Chance Coffee continues to grow to allow us to extend into other countries.

WHEN

Second Chance Coffee has been a project we have been working on in the background since 2021. We took our time to ensure that our branding was in line with our mission. We wanted to carefully curate a brand that would pay homage to Nicaragua with the mask of macho raton.

We hope to have our product available to the public in local stores in 2023.
